Thursday Night Yukon Polo

Yukon Kayak Polo is on again for the 2008/2009 season! Details are included below. NOTE IMPORTANT CHANGES TO REGISTRATION DUE TO HIGHER THAN EXPECTED INTEREST

Registration:

Due to higher than expected interest in polo this year, the registration process will go as follows:

  • E-mail Steve Clemens at clemistry (at) gmail (dot) com on or before Monday Sept 22 to indicate you want to play.
  • Show up for the registration meeting on Thursday, September 25 at 8:30 pm (same time as games) at 2131 1st Avenue NW.

For now, we plan to cap registration at 30 players. If by Monday we have more than 30 interested people we will do our best to explore adding a second night or extending the play time to accodate more players. Of course that will depend on SAIT pool availability. If we are unable to accomodate more than 30, priority will be given as follows:

  • 1. Those who have e-mailed (by Monday) and played last year
  • 2. Those who have e-mailed (by Monday) and did not play last year
  • 3. Those who are at the registration meeting that played last year
  • 4. Those who are at the registration meeting and did not play last year.

Note:Hold onto your money until the meeting. You must show up at the meeting.

2008/2009 Schedule:

We have booked 1.5 hours of play time for each night. Note that we MUST be out of the building by the listed time. If you are slow we will have to end the games earlier. So to maximise game time, please help put away the equipment and don't be tardy.

    Dates (Thursdays):
  • Fall 2008: Oct 9 - Dec 11 (10 Sessions)
  • Winter 2009: Jan 8 - Mar 12 (10 Sessions)
    Times 8:30 - 10:30 pm
  • 8:30 - 8:45 set up
  • 8:45 - 10:15 game time
  • 10:15 - 10:30 tear down

Fees and Payment:

  • Fall 2008: $70 + $10 CKC membership = $80
  • Winter 2009: $70 + $10 CKC membership = $80
  • Both seasons: $140 + $10 CKC membership = $150
  • Drop-Ins: $10 + one time fee of $10 for CKC membership (if space permits)

We need your money before you can play. Cheques can be made payable to "Calgary Kayak Club". Your spot will be held once we have payment.

Drop-ins pay cash to us at the pool. Correct change is appreciated.

Drop Ins:

If you are not sure you will like it, or know you will be away for much of the season, drop-in may be for you. You will need pay $10 for a CKC membership and after than it's $10 / session. We need your cash before the game. Please don't make us chase you for the money and make sure you sign the waiver. We do reserve the right to limit the number of players each night, so if there are more than 24 registered players on a given night, drop-ins will not be accepted. If you want to guarantee a spot, sign up for the season.

Cancellation Policy:

When you sign up you claim a spot that someone else can no longer buy. When we book pool time at SAIT it is a financial commitment and as such we have the following policy on cancellations/reimbursement:

  • Up to the first game of a season cancellations will be accepted with full refund.
  • After the first game there will be no refunds. You are welcome to sell your spot to someone else.

If you have any questions, please contact Steve Clemens at 403-695-5727 or email clemistry (at) gamil (dot) com.

Notes:

  • We will consider a pro-rated registration fee for later registrants if space permits.
  • Drop-ins will be accepted only if there are less than 24 registered players.
  • Equipment:

  • Helmets with face masks are provided and mandatory to play.
  • You can bring your own clean boat (there is a hose at sait to clean it out with if necessary).
  • Boats can be left at your own risk.
  • Bring your own paddle - edges must be taped to protect hands from being cut by sharp edges.
  • SAIT has PFDs which can be used, but you'd probably prefer your own if you have one
  • As in the past, Aquabatics has graciously allowed us use of their demo fleet for the duration of the time that it is located at SAIT. Please respect the equipment.
  • Map To SAIT:

The best place to park is south of the C-Train tracks and on the south-east side of ACAD. The pool can validate parking, so bring your ticket in with you and remember to scan it before you leave! Here is a map of the area...
